Project Details
When evaluating the existing epoxy floors at the sporting goods retailer’s location, AAA found that the quartz flooring was difficult for employees to maintain. Although the quartz was bonded very well to the concrete, the epoxy grouting and top coat were improperly installed. Additionally, the old coating was beyond cleaning and sealing.
Steps to Improve Epoxy Floor Coatings at Dick’s Sporting Goods
1) The AAA team went to work degreasing and scrubbing the floor to remove all grease and dirt.
2) Next, the team worked with 30-grit, soft-bond diamonds to grind the old epoxy coating and to achieve a clean, proper surface. Concrete surface preparation is a major step in projects of this nature to ensure that the recoat adheres correctly.
3) After surface prep, AAA Southern States Refinishing applied a primer coat of Superior Epoxies super gloss in grey at 10 wet mils.
4) A 10 mil base coat of super gloss followed the initial primer coat.
5) The contractor then broadcast decorative flakes into the wet base in order to aid in slip resistance.
6) Finally, they applied a 2K urethane in clear, also supplied by Superior Epoxies.
7) Epoxy coating flooring problem solved.
