Moisture Mitigation For Concrete New Orleans

University Medical New Orleans Moisture Mitigation

In this moisture mitigation project, Specified Surfaces worked closely with Skanska, a global construction company, and NBBJ Architects to develop a moisture control system for the new concrete floors installed in the University Medical Center in New Orleans, Louisiana.

About the New Hospital: UMC New Orleans is an academic medical center partnering with the Schools of Medicine from Louisiana State University and Tulane University in order to train healthcare professionals and lead in medical research for cures & treatments.

The $1.1 Billion facility is situated on 37 acres in the heart of downtown New Orleans bordered by Canal Street, Tulane Avenue and South Claiborne Avenue. The building features 2.3 million sq. ft. of space and is furnished in such a way as to make the 446-bed hospital feel more like a hotel than a medical facility. The hospital also houses 277 exam rooms, 19 operating rooms, 5 clinical floors and will be the region’s only Level I Trauma Center for severely-injured patients. (The Time Picayune)

This is one of the largest healthcare projects in the Southeast in the past 10 years.

Moisture mitigation systems for fast track construction provide numerous benefits over the long-waiting periods of traditional moisture control models. Fast track moisture techniques cap the concrete, and in turn, prevent delays due to water and vapor, emissions that often create the risk of flooring failures.

In this project, Specified Surfaces worked with Skanska and NBBJ Architects to develop a single-source Mapei system designed to optimize compatibility and maximize warranty protection for the owner.

Specified Surfaces worked with flooring and general contractors to maintain schedules and overcome challenges.
